The issue here is the issue in most of Los Angeles, these are not landlords but property management companies. I am grateful to live in a rent controlled building in Los Angeles, so many friends have moved in to a building and within 6 months the rent goes up by 30-50%. This is why there is so much homelessness in our city. Rent control should be mandatory, how can we have affordable housing without it?

The landlords don’t give 2 shits about the Tenants - all they care about is there Money. Me and my family had been renting our home for 12 years , we recently got laid off for 7!weeks and did everything we were supposed to do and our landlord sold the property knowing we had no Proof of income to move or money at the moment-> On top of that he lied to the buyers and told them he gave us money to move so he would sale the house faster and that we would be out at the end of that month- -> a few weeks later these people that bought the home were trying to get into our residence only to find me confronting them at the door to there surprise.. This has been a nightmare-> Now we are getting harassed by these people every week and we are scrambling to find a place and it is not easy moving right now- A lot of Competition trying to find a home, the market is saturated with renters- All we can do is pry and keep looking🙏🏼 Very uncomfortable times we are living in- Stressful

This is so stupid. The renter agreed to 3k a month. Period. There is no condition within the lease rental agreement which states if you lose your job you will get a 1k discount. If she can no longer afford it then move to a cheaper place and break the lease. Democrats are so stupid. They want to keep everything closed and keep people out of work on purpose so you can become more dependent on them. All that happens is they put more money in their own pockets. Trump 2020. Vote Democrats out!

It's just a matter of time before the tent cities sprout up under overpasses on the highways...oops, you're already there. Wait until they go to Brentwood, Beverly Hills, Malibu. Most landlords are still living in the post Covid world! I placed a comment on landlords should be working with city, state, and federal officials to get "rent relief". Received approximately 35 replies from landlords and all of them were adamant that if a tenant could not pay they were "deadbeats" and needed to be "evicted immediately"! Not a one of them mentioned or showed any empathy or understanding of the fact that we have a virus raging, the government instituted a lockdown, and people who had been responsibly paying their rent for years and years were in trouble because many businesses are closed or permanently shut down. Think the only time reality is going to hit these landlords is after they "evict" all these so-called "deadbeats" and no-one else shows up to rent the units and the bank forecloses on their property! The world before Covid is NOT The world now! And, the inflexible attitude of "landlords" is simply playing right into the hands of the top 10% who could care less about tenants or landlords and just want to "swoop in" and grab these properties for penny's on the dollar!

That is appalling. Greed is the bottom statement. They want the tenants out so they CAN raise the rent, so to make more money to line their own pockets. There should be a law against this type of action. That is kicking the person when they are already on the ground. Makes me sick. The rich gets richer, and the poor stay poor. Greed runs this country, and those that have been put into dire straits can do nothing about it.

Socialist agenda forcing price fixing would create higher demand and the inability for the free market to function. Landlords see when government money is poured into an industry, it is inflationary. Let someone else be full to capacity with low income subsidies and those outside of the program can charge the higher rent for those needing housing and are not in the program. They saw Venezuela grocery stores and farms under price controls. Empty shelves and idle farms. The black market is where you could actually buy and sell produce. We tried the price controls on gasoline in the 1970's and the rationing. If you are limited to a purchase of $2 gas during a visit, you go from station to station to get enough gas to get to work, which results in lines blocks long for the few gas stations that simply have not ran out. Yes, delivery cut way back when retail at the pump was less than wholesale prices. Wholesalers either stopped delivery or delivered minimum amounts. Over 1/2 the gas stations closed for good. There were no longer 3 gas stations in a price war on a corner. The city should have cut the strings on landlords, and provided rent relief and the tenants could move to the best offers or supplement the relief to stay in a nicer location in the free market. Yes pouring money into a limited resource industry will cause inflation, and attract others to develop more housing. High prices in a free market will also limit the demand if it is too expensive. Government should not meddle in the free market. Socialist action results in damage to the economy.

Nice Leftist SPIN, NBC. Gloss over the fact that the government put conditions on the deal that landlords couldn't agree to. If you government wants to help the tenants, let them help the tenants. Don't have them try to stick it to the landlords at the same time.

I see a lot of people siding with the landlords here, I haven't totally made up my mind yet. Convince me that receiving this funding means that you can't raise your rent for 1 year is so bad. Regardless of what Trump says we are in a recession and it might take years to recover. If you are going to raise rents during a recession you are going to have a lot of empty properties.

@Mona W The video did either you didn't watch it or pay close attention to what was being said. The only condition I heard in the video was they could not raise their rent for one year. Now if it is just a one time payment I can see why landlords would be apprehensive. If it is until the covid crisis is over it's is asinine to refuse the money just because they can't raise the rent for one year.

Who said anything about raising rent? The govt wants to pay 65% of rent to landlords with all these conditions, but is the govt willing to accept 65% of property taxes? My guess is, no. Landlords have bills, and expenses too. Govt shut our economy down, not the landlords. Why should they foot the bill?

Those landlords probably don't want to help because they saw how long it took for individuals to get a stimulates check. Those landlords probably don't want to go through a second time of waiting for the government or organization to send assistances. It most of been devastated for the landlord to have to go through that they thought they would never had go through. Just pray that there is a backup plan in place just in case these landlords don't want to take any assistance in helping with these individuals rent because of Covid-19.

Landlords own mortgages on their properties. Could be several factors. First one being as they won't be able to pay the mortgage on the property. Another one could be that it's a bad tenant and they want them out. And third not all tenants are the same some tenants are really nasty pieces of work. And frankly why are you paying $3,000 a month when you're out of a job you need to move and find something more affordable. I feel really bad she lost her job and she's struggling but she needs to move and find something more budget-friendly.

Does anyone else wish that the news would give landlords equal time? Not the huge corporations. The small scale landlords who haven't been paid in full or at all during C19. How many have lost properties because they weren't paid? I think they forget. Landlords have rights & responsibilities just like everyone else.

But now because of this stupid pandemic millions lot of people are out of work and have lost their livelihoods, so don't make sound as if it is so easy to go out and get another equally paying job just like that.

In a free market system you cannot tell and especially force someone to lock a price on any product including rent . We all know rents will skyrocket whenever this Fake pandemic is over because investors will want their money . Don't like the high rents ? Move to a Republican run state or city !

why is she living in such an expensive area, great blame the landlords for this huge company that owns many properties, some landlords are just trying to get by and only have 1 property as their soul source of income and have to pay their mortgage. Also, it looks like this is a property management company that manages property for many landlords.

Even rooms for rent in or anywhere near LA will cost you at least a $1000 Per month these days. Its really gross how expensive rent is here in this state. Even with a decent job you are barely getting by, and every year the rent keeps going up. Its sickening.
